Marian Men's Golf Knocks Off Six Teams in NAIA Coaches Poll at NAIA Memphis Shootout

Memphis, Tenn. - The Marian men's golf team continued their fall schedule on October 9 and 10, as the Knights placed fourth of 15 teams at the NAIA Memphis Shootout. William Carey won the event hosted by Sterling College, winning by 20 shots. Marian's fourth place finish was highlighted by Nolan Potter and Lane Zedrick's top-15 finish.

Marian finished fourth in the tournament, placing ahead of six teams either rated or receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, including No. 12 Taylor and No. 23 Blue Mountain. Marian scored a 302+306+298=906 in the tournament, finishing two strokes off of second place MidAmerica Nazarene. (RV) William Carey won the tournament with a three-round score of 884, while MidAmerica Nazarene finished with a 904 score. In between the Knights and Pioneers on the leaderboard was (RV) Kansas Wesleyan, who finished with a 905 team score.

Among the teams the Knights defeated, Marian knocked off fifth place finisher (RV) Southwestern Christian, sixth place No. 12 Taylor, and No. 23 Blue Mountain who finished seventh. Marian also finished ahead of (RV) Indiana Wesleyan, (RV) Northwestern Ohio, and (RV) Missouri Baptist.

Nolan Potter and Lane Zedrick led Marian in the tournament, placing in the top-15 in the third tournament of the fall. Potter finished the final round of the 54-hole tournament with a 70 on his scorecard, adding to Monday's two rounds of 78 to finish with a total score fo 226. Zedrick's 226 score came after firing a 74 and 76 on Monday, while shooting a 76 on the final 18 holes. 

Weston Ogden tied for 19th in the field finishing 12-over-par, firing a 75+77+76=228 for the two-day tournament. Augie Mann finished in a tie for 28th overall, firing round scores of 75, 76, and 79 to come out to his total of 230. Marian's final golfer in the field was Brandon Heffner, as he shook off an 81 in his first round Monday by finishing with a 77 and 76 to total 234 for the three-round shootout.

Marian will finish their fall season in Kentucky on October 23 and 24, playing in Lindsey Wilson's Gibson Bay Match Play Tournament.
