Marian Records Program-Best Finish in 8th Place Performance at NAIA National Championships
Dalton, Ga. - The Marian men's golf team finished off their historic 2023-24 season on Friday at the NAIA National Championships, placing in a tie for eighth place at the NAIA National Championships. The Knights' finish is the best in program history and second-best in Crossroads League history, as Marian also set their team record for a 72-hole tournament.
Marian ended the tournament with a rebound performance, dropping six strokes off their round three score as they completed the tournament with a fourth round score of 303. The Knights final score for the week was a total of 1216, which set a new program record for 72 holes, passing the previous mark set in 1999. Marian fired a 302 in both the first and second rounds, and shot a 309 in the third round.
Dalton State would go on to win the team championship, as they-ended the four-round event with an 1182 score, taking out Texas Wesleyan by one stroke. Keiser would go on to finish third, followed by Columbia College and Houston-Victoria. British Columbia finished sixth and Lindsey Wilson finished seventh, putting Marian in eighth, where they tied with MidAmerica Nazarene University.
Individually in the final round for Marian, Brandon Heffner paced the way with a team-best performance of 71. The junior made four birdies on the day, and eagled the 10th hole, helping him post Marian's only round under-par. Heffner finished the tournament with a total score of 303, tying for 32nd overall in the field. Lane Zedrick and Weston Ogden both carded a 77 in the final round of the tournament, as the pair combined to make par on 25 of 36 holes. Zedrick finished tied for 39th overall with a 305 total for four rounds, while Ogden tied for 43rd with his 306 total score.
Augie Mann would end the week in 53rd place overall, ending the tournament with a fourth-round score of 78. Mann fired a 310 total score for the four rounds of the NAIA Championship. Nolan Potter completed Marian's team efforts, as he too shot a 78 in the final round of the NAIA Championship. Potter placed 74th overall, and ended the week with a grand total of 317.
Marian won the Crossroads League Championship with a league-record performance, and set a program record for wins in a single season as they completed seven tournament victories.
