Cougars Improve to 4-0-1 with Win Over Indiana Northwest

CROWN POINT, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's soccer team defeated Indiana University Northwest by a final score of 2-1 in non-conference action on Tuesday, September 3. The Cougars are now 4-0-1 overall and are off to their best start to the season since 2001. 

Indiana Northwest took an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the first 10 minutes of action. With 37:59 on the clock, Haley Roberson found the back of the net off a corner kick to score her second goal of the season and tie the score up 1-1. The Cougars looked to score again in the final minutes of the first half, with USF firing off two shots and a corner kick, but Saint Francis and Indiana Northwest would go into the locker room tied 1-1 at the half. 

The second half remained competitive between the Cougars and the RedHawks, with both teams taking four shots in the last 45 minutes of action. Carlee Biddle fired off a shot that would hit the back of the net to put USF up 2-1 with just seven minutes left to play. Courtney Tobin assisted on the goal, which made it the third consecutive match with an assist for the junior midfielder.

As a team, the Cougars finished Tuesday night's match with seven shots on goal compared to IU Northwest's two. Saint Francis also led in corner kicks with four total. Roberson led the Cougars with two shots, both landing on goal. Biddle, Taylor SwygartHaleigh Wesleyand Holly Thomas all had a shot on goal on Tuesday.

"Tonight was a great team win over a solid IU Northwest team," Head Coach Ken Nuber said. "I am proud of how this team has started this season."

USF women's soccer will play Indiana University East at Centerville High School on Saturday, September 7 at 3:30 p.m.
