
Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | August 16-22
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from August 16 through 22. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Amanda Adams, Taylor
Adams hit .300 with 3.6 kills per set for Taylor during its 3-1 showing at the Keiser Invite. The outside hitter highlighted the week with a 23-kill effort in a four-set win over Southeastern and closed with 14.0 kills and 4.2 digs per match in TU's three victories.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Gina Novotny, Grace
Novotny reached the 2,000-dig mark for her career at Grace, averaging 5.8 digs per set over four weekend contests for the Lancers. The senior became the third player in GC history to reach the milestone with 93 digs, 14 assists and five aces in the four outings.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Lexi Spence, Marian
Spence paced the offense for No. 16 Marian in a 4-0 showing to open the campaign. The setter tossed up 98 total assists to reach 2,000 for her career and became the third Knight in the past five seasons to reach the milestone.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Mackenzie Selvius, Spring Arbor
Selvius scored the lone goal of the match for No. 3 Spring Arbor in its 1-1 draw with RV Embry-Riddle (AZ), before finding the net twice in a 4-0 win over No. 10 Eastern Oregon. For the week, the senior put four-of-nine shots on frame, with three beating the opposing keeper.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Becca Mindling, Spring Arbor
Mindling helped No. 3 SAU allow just one goal on the week in clashes with No. 10 Eastern Oregon and RV Embry-Riddle (AZ). The senior also added one goal and one assist in the Cougars' shutout of Eastern Oregon.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Martim Cardoso, Grace
Cardoso immediately impressed in his debut with the Lancers, putting in two goals in both matches to open the season. The junior transfer posted four goals on eight shots to help RV Grace to a 3-0 win over Trinity International and a 3-1 win over Lawrence Tech.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Matteo Conci, Grace
Conci allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of work between the pipes for RV Grace, stopping nine shots and posting one shutout in a pair of Lancer victories to start the year.
