JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from October 4 through 10. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Skyler Van Note, Marian
Van Note highlighted No. 7 Marian's 5-0 week with 3.8 kills, 3.9 digs and 0.5 blocks per set to go with a .431 hitting percentage. Van Note's best showing came in MU's sweep of No. 17 Taylor, posting a 14-kill, 23-dig double-double to keep the Knights perfect in league play.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Ellie Ruby, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Ruby repeated as the Crossroads League Defender of the Week after a busy week at libero for MVNU. The senior had two 30-dig matches, averaged 6.6 digs per set and tallied 92 total digs over four wins for the Cougars.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Paige Brenner, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Brenner led MVNU to a 4-0 week, tossing up at least 30 assists in all four matches and finishing with 157 assists and a 11.2 helpers per set for the week. The junior's best showing came in a four-set win over Lourdes, posting 49 assists, seven digs, four kills and one block.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Lexi Ponstein, Spring Arbor
Ponstein struck for two goals in No. 4 Spring Arbor's lone outing of the week, helping the Cougars secure a 4-0 win over Taylor to remain unbeaten in Crossroads League play.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Corryn Berlin, Bethel
Berlin helped Bethel secure its first shutout since the start of the 2019 campaign, recording eight saves in a 1-0 victory over Goshen.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Miguel Martin, Bethel
Martin logged his first collegiate hat trick to account for all of the scoring in RV Bethel's 3-0 win over Goshen. Martin only took three shots in the contest, finding the back of the net on each attempt.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jackson Hoosier, Taylor
Hoosier pushed Taylor to a 1-0 win over Spring Arbor in the lone match of the week for the Trojans. The sophomore defender helped limit SAU to two shots in the contest and his goal from 30 yards out was the game-winner.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Jenna Couwenhoven, Indiana Wesleyan
Couwenhoven was the top finisher out of 174 racers at the Bethel Invitational, crossing with a time of 18:48.3 to lead No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan to the team title.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Eli Fullerton, Indiana Wesleyan
Fullerton posted a time of 26:00.6 to top a field of 130 runners at the Bethel Invitational. The freshman's individual title helped No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan cruise to a first-place team finish at the event.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Hannah Vaughn, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Vaughn posted an average score of 202 at the first-ever Crossroads League Bowling Tournament, winning the meet with a total score of 808 in the four games for MVNU.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Jordan Shepherd, Marian
Shepherd claimed the individual title at the inaugural Crossroads League Bowling Tournament, helping Marian secure the team crown. Shepherd knocked down 859 pins during the afternoon event.
