JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from October 25 through 31. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Maggie Coe, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Coe averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game for Mount Vernon Nazarene in wins over Michigan-Dearborn and Madonna. The junior shot 62.5 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range in the two victories.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Antwaan Cushingberry, Saint Francis
Cushingberry led No. 2 Saint Francis to a 3-0 start, netting 24.7 points, 4.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 0.7 steals per game for the Cougars. The point guard had a pair of 30-point games and shot 58.1 percent from the floor.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Anna Frey, Grace
Frey posted a double-double in Grace's win over Spring Arbor, finishing with 15 kills, 19 digs and three blocks in the 3-1 win. Frey also had 11 kills on a .348 percentage in a sweep of Goshen and closed the 2-0 week with 3.7 kills, 3.9 digs, 0.6 blocks and 0.3 aces per set.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Isabelle North, Bethel
North posted 17 total blocks for Bethel in its wins over Huntington and No. 6 Marian. The sophomore averaged 2.13 blocks and 2.0 kills per set in the two matches, and went for nine blocks and 11 kills in BU's upset of the Knights.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Kacy Bragg, Taylor
Bragg averaged 13.0 assists, 2.2 digs and 0.7 blocks per set for No. 25 Taylor in its wins over RV Mount Vernon Nazarene and Saint Francis. The junior setter posted at least 35 assists and two blocks in each affair, tallying 39.0 assist, 6.5 digs and 2.0 blocks per outing.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Sydney Brown, Indiana Wesleyan
Brown lifted No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan over No. 6 Marian with two goals in a 2-1 victory and closed the week with two goals, four points and four shots for the Wildcats in their wins over MU and Grace.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Libby Stratton, Grace
Stratton notched four saves in a 5-0 shutout victory for No. 15 Grace over Mount Vernon Nazarene. The clean slate helped Grace secure a top-four league finish.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Luan Bressey, Bethel
Bressey scored twice on the week for RV Bethel. The sophomore scored the game-tying strike in a 1-1 draw with MVNU, before hitting the game-winner in a 2-1 overtime victory against SAU that clinched the Crossroads League Championship for the Pilots.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Joao de Oliveira, Bethel
Oliveira played all 190 minutes on the back line for RV Bethel, helping the Pilots hold MVNU and Spring Arbor to two goals on eight shots over two matches.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Andrea Ziegler, Marian
Ziegler averaged 199 for Marian and knocked down 995 pins in five games at the Purdue Classic. Ziegler posted a high score of 214 in her first game of the event.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Jeffery Mann, Marian
Mann put down 1,167 total pins over five games for Marian at the Purdue Classic. The senior went over 200 in each game, averaged 233.4 for the Knights and posted a game-high score of 258.
