JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from November 1 through 7. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Cassidy Crawford, Saint Francis
Crawford led Saint Francis with 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in a pair of outings. The junior also shot 68.2 percent from the floor for the Cougars.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Elijah Malone, Grace
Malone led RV Grace to wins over Siena Heights and Oakland City by averaging 24.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. In addition, Malone shot 22-of-29 from the field for a blistering clip of 76.0 percent.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Jai-Lyn Norwood, Marian
Norwood took 21 swings and ended with 15 kills in Marian's sweep of Huntington in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. Norwood had just one error, posted a hitting percentage of .667 and added three blocks in the 3-0 win for the No. 6 and top-seeded Knights.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Paige Thibault, Indiana Wesleyan
Thibault collected 25 digs in three sets to help No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan to a sweep of Grace in the Crossroad League Tournament Quarterfinals. Thibault also added two assists and one service ace in the contest.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Kacy Bragg, Taylor
Bragg hoisted 35 assists and added nine digs, five kills and one block in No. 25 Taylor's sweep of Spring Arbor in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. The junior setter averaged 11.7 assists, 3.0 digs and 1.7 kills per set, while posting a .308 hitting percentage in the win.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Allie Schlom, Marian
Schlom scored twice and added an assist in No. 8 Marian's 5-0 victory against Bethel in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. The junior put three of her four shots on target and ended the match with five points.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Rebekah Cotton, Spring Arbor
Cotton helped No. 3 Spring Arbor to a 15th-straight shutout, as the Cougars took a 7-0 win over Goshen in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. The senior center back's play helped SAU set a program record with the 15th-straight shutout.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Martim Cardoso, Grace
Cardoso led RV Grace to a 2-0 victory over Taylor in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals, scoring the game-winner and assisting an insurance tally in the match.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Aaron Carr, Indiana Wesleyan
Carr grabbed 11 saves in a 0-0 draw against Huntington on Saturday in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals and then stopped two shots in the ensuing shootout to help IWU advance, 6-5, on penalty kicks.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Alex Ebetino, Saint Francis
Ebetino took the individual Crossroad League Championship on Saturday, posting a time of 18:32.1 on Huntington's course to win the title by two seconds.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Haile Stutzman, Huntington
Stutzman claimed his second individual Crossroads League Championship with a time of 24:52 on his home course. The junior topped the field by eight seconds.
