JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from November 8 through 14. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Sage Brannon, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Brannon lifted the RV Cougars to an 82-76 upset of No. 2 Thomas More by pouring in 25 points on nine-of-13 shooting from the field and a four-of-six clip from deep. The senior guard added nine rebounds, four steals and two assists to fuel the victory.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
David Ejah, Saint Francis
Ejah earned Rio Grande Tournament MVP honors for No. 2 Saint Francis and helped the Cougars to a 3-0 week with 29.0 points, 13.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per victory. The forward shot 66.0 percent, had two double-doubles and reached 30 points twice, including a 44-point outburst in USF's 95-90 win over Great Lakes Christian.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Sarah Spangler, Marian
Spangler recorded double-digit kills in each of No. 7 Marian's Crossroads League Tournament victories, averaging 3.5 kills per set at a .455 percentage to lead the Knights over No. 24 Bethel and No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Skyler Van Note, Marian
Van Note did it all for the No. 7 Knights in their run past No. 24 Bethel and No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament. Van Note averaged 4.4 digs, 3.1 kills and 0.4 blocks, while going for 17 kills and 23 digs in MU's CL Tourney Championship-winning match.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Olivia Zawadzki, Indiana Wesleyan
Zawadzki posted a pair of 50-assist outings for No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament and averaged 11.6 assists, 1.9 digs and 1.1 kills per set in her two matches. The sophomore posted 50 assists in a 3-1 win over RV Taylor and added a career-high 54 in a five-set loss to No. 7 Marian in the championship match.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Mallory Krueger, Indiana Wesleyan
Krueger notched an assist to help No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan to a 3-2 win over No. 8 Marian in the CL Tourney Semifinals, before scoring twice in IWU's title-clinching overtime win against No. 3 Spring Arbor in the tourney championship.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Hope Stacker, Indiana Wesleyan
Stacker posted 10 saves total in No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan's wins over No. 8 Marian and No. 3 Spring Arbor to help the Wildcats secure the CL Tournament Championship. Stacker had seven stops in the championship-clinching 2-1 overtime win at SAU, including two in the extra period.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Andre Luis Sabino, Bethel
Sabino had a pivotal role in RV Bethel winning the Crossroads League Tournament Championship, scoring twice in a 2-0 win over Marian and then adding a penalty kick goal to help the Pilots claim the title via a 3-1 result in penalty kicks over Indiana Wesleyan.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Franklin Joyce, Bethel
Joyce posted shutouts over Marian and Indiana Wesleyan to lead RV Bethel to the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. The senior keeper highlighted his tourney with three stopped penalty kicks to help BU claim the tourney crown.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Tandess O'Neal, Marian
O'Neal won the Raider Classic with a total score of 1,183. The freshman averaged 236.6 for Marian, with each game ending between a score of 211 and 265.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Nolan Blessing, Marian
Blessing turned in Marian's best outing at the Raider Classic with a 24th-place finish and final score of 1,056. The freshman topped 200 in four-of-five games and averaged 211 at the event.
