JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from February 7 through 13. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Meleah Kunkel, Saint Francis
Kunkel highlighted USF's upset of No. 4 Marian with 21 points, seven rebounds and two steals in the 65-64 outcome and ended the week with 14.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game over a pair of Cougar victories.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Christian Stewart, Marian
Stewart helped No. 17 Marian to wins over No. 15 Saint Francis, Huntington and Brescia, with 21.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds. Stewart shot 65.5 percent from the floor in the three wins and averaged 29.5 points per game in MU's two league victories.
Women's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Kylie Sauder, Grace
Sauder took home wins in the 800-meters and 4x400-meter relay for Grace at the NCCAA National Championships. Sauder hit the A-standard for the NAIA in the 800 with a time of 2:17.38 to automatically qualify for NAIA Nationals.
Women's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Madison Kauffman, Bethel
Kauffman hit the NAIA A-standard with a distance of 16.40 meters in the weight throw for Bethel at NCCAA Nationals. Kauffman also added a fourth-place showing in the shot put at the meet for the Pilots.
Men's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Brennen Bargesser, Bethel
Bargesser score wins in the 4x200-meter relay and 400-meters for Bethel at the NCCAA National Championships. The freshman's time of 48.75 in the 400 was an A-standard and a top-20 time in the NAIA this season.
Men's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Elisha Fleming, Bethel
Fleming won the heptathlon for Bethel at the NCCAA National Championships with 4,681 points to automatically qualify for NAIA Nationals. Fleming won four events in the heptathlon and posted the seventh-best score in the NAIA this season.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Shea Miller, Indiana Wesleyan
Miller was IWU's top finisher at the Scotty Classic in Michigan, scoring in 38th out of 154 competitors. Miller averaged 192.8 pins with a game-high of 245.
Baseball Player of the Week
TJ Bass, Taylor
Facing pitching from the No. 4, No. 17 and No. 21-ranked teams in the NAIA, Taylor's TJ Bass ripped two home runs, drove in eight and batted .467 over 15 at bats for the Trojans. The junior was pivotal in TU's 12-9 win over No. 21 Reinhardt with two homers and six RBI.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Kameron Koch, Grace
Koch hurled a seven-inning complete game shutout in a 17-0 win for Grace over Aquinas. The junior southpaw fanned eight and allowed just four hits and two walks in the effort on the mound.
