JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from March 7 through 13. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Thomas Dolan, Bethel
Dolan spurred Bethel's doubleheader sweep of RV Indiana Wesleyan with five hits in seven at bats. The sophomore came in to score three times and drove in another four to play a role in seven of BU's 18 runs on the day.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Luke Shively, Taylor
Shively fired a one-hit, 12-strikeout shutout in RV Taylor's 6-0 win against Huntington. Shively also walked just one batter in the nine-inning complete-game and took the victory on the bump in the series opener.
Softball Player of the Week
Sierra Norman, Marian
Norman highlighted a 6-1 week on the diamond for No. 16 Marian, collecting 10 hits in 22 at bats, with four of those clearing the fences. Norman drove in 11 runs, scored eight times and posted a slash line of .455/.520/1.045 on the week.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Alyssa Wagner, Indiana Wesleyan
Wagner went 2-0 with 25 strikeouts in 14.2 innings for No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan. The sophomore saw time in four games, winning each of her two starts and allowing just one earned run and eight combined hits and walks for a 0.48 ERA and 0.55 WHIP.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Sela Clifford, Spring Arbor
Clifford was unbeaten in six matches during SAU's 2-1 week. The senior won at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles in a contest with No. 17 Southeastern and helped the Cougars to team victories over Baldwin-Wallace and Emerson.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Facundo Paredes, Grace
Paredes went 6-0 over three matches for No. 21 Grace, helping the Lancers to a victory over RV Campbellsville. The sophomore also scored the only points of a team loss to No. 6 Union, picking up wins at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Sydney Leyerle, Indiana Wesleyan
Leyerle led Indiana Wesleyan at the Skyhawk Invite, shooting a 161 over 36 holes to finish 20th overall in the 60-golfer event.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Matthew Chapman, Marian
Chapman finished ninth-of-52 golfers at the Lawrence Tech Invite, firing a two-round total of 150 for Marian on the 6,671-yard course.
