JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from April 4 through 10. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Jake Glover, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Glover drilled five extra-base hits and knocked in 14 runs for Mount Vernon Nazarene, helping the Cougars to a 5-1 week. Glover hit .348 with two doubles, three homers, 14 RBI and six runs scored over six games.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Camden Dice, Huntington
Dice fired a nine-inning gem in Huntington's 3-2 win over Indiana Wesleyan. Dice fanned nine Wildcats and allowed just two runs on five hits and one walk to record the win on the bump for the Foresters.
Softball Player of the Week
Shelbie Stotts, Marian
Stotts hit .529 over four Marian wins, posting four runs, one double, two dingers and eight runs batted in for the No. 18 Knights.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Olivia Stunkel, Marian
Stunkel went 2-0 with a 0.70 earned-run average over 10 innings for No. 18 Marian. The freshman fanned 15 batters, compared to just two walks and seven hits allowed in wins over Grace and Goshen.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Heather Plastow, Grace
Plastow finished first in the 800-meters and second in the 1,500-meters for Grace at the Manchester Invite. The senior's time of 4:43.12 in the 1,500 was good for provisional qualification to NAIA Nationals.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Lanae Crowe, Grace
Crowe scored an individual win for Grace at the Manchester Invite. Crowe topped a field of 24 competitors with a distance of 40.5 meters in the discus.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Bryan Hernandez-Rios, Grace
Hernandez-Rios led the Grace runners at the Manchester Invite, finishing first in the 800-meters and second in the 1,500-meters. Hernandez-Rios crossed in 1:58.73 to pace the pack of 17 runners in the 800.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Isaac Brown, Grace
Brown recorded a pair of top-two finishes for Grace at the Manchester Invite. Brown won the javelin with a mark of 53.35 meters and placed second with a distance of 6.37 meters in the long jump.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Lena Golz, Indiana Wesleyan
Golz continued to pace the No. 3 Wildcats with two more wins at No. 1 and 2 singles and a 2-1 clip at No. 1 doubles. The junior posted a 3-0 individual mark in IWU's two team victories, and won both of her matches in a team win over No. 19 Campbellsville.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Jeremias Rocco, Indiana Wesleyan
Rocco led No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan to three more victories, helping the Wildcats past Indiana Tech, Lawrence Tech and RV Campbellsville. Rocco went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles in the three team victories.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Mira Nicpon, Marian
Nicpon turned in rounds of 75 and 77 to finish fourth-of-62 golfers at the Midway Eagle Invite, helping RV Marian finish fourth overall at the 11-team event.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Matthew Chapman, Marian
Chapman finished sixth-of-96 at the TPC Deere Run Invite. The Marian senior carded rounds of 71 and 75 at the 6,502-yard course.
