JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top athletes from May 2 through 8. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Camden Knepp, Taylor
Knepp picked up four hits in five at bats to help No. 24 Taylor to a 9-2 win over Spring Arbor in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament. Knepp mixed in one double, scored one time and drove in four runs to spark the TU attack.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Luke Shively, Taylor
Shively posted his 11th win of the season to set a new program record for No. 24 Taylor, going the distance in a 9-2 win over Spring Arbor in the CL Tournament opener. The senior scattered five hits and one walk and carried a shutout into the final frame.
Softball Player of the Week
Savannah Harweger, Marian
Harweger hit .571 with eight hits in 14 at bats for No. 14 Marian through the first three games of the CL Tournament. The junior shortstop added one home run, three runs batted in and four runs scored to pace the Knights and had multiple hits in all three contests.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Maddi Evans, Taylor
Evans went 3-1 over four starts in the Crossroads League Tournament for Taylor, allowing just five earned runs over 24 innings and working two complete games. In addition to the 1.46 earned-run average, Evans picked up 17 strikeouts.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak helped Marian to the CL Championship by earning all-league honors in six events. Oleksak scored wins in the 100-hurdles, 4x100-relay and 4x400-relay, while taking second in the 400-hurdles. In the field events, Oleksak won the high jump and took second in the long jump.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jai-Lyn Norwood, Marian
Norwood picked up five top-three finishes at the CL Championships to help Marian to the team title. Norwood won the long jump and 4x400-relay and also took all-league accolades in the triple jump, high jump and 400-meters.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Bryan Hernandez-Rios, Grace
Hernandez-Rios scored wins at the Crossroads League Championships in the 5,000-meters and 10,000-meters, hitting NAIA-A marks in each event. The junior's time of 30:37.28 in the 10,000 broke his own school record.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jacob Gerber, Goshen
Gerber turned in the sixth-best hammer throw distance of the season in the NAIA, automatically qualifying for NAIA Nationals with a Crossroads League Championship-winning mark of 60.24 meters.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Sabrina Langerak, Taylor
Langerak won the individual Crossroads League Championship with a birdie on the first playoff hole and finished the three-round event with a total score of 223. The freshman fired an opening-round mark of 68 to tie No. 19 Taylor's program record.
