JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from October 10-16. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Kortney Grimm, Huntington
Grimm posted 3.4 kills per set at a .373 hitting percentage to lead Huntington to upset victories over No. 15 Marian and RV Saint Xavier. The sophomore had eight kills and eight digs in the sweep of MU, before dumping 19 kills, nine digs and five blocks in a five-set win over SXU.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Layla Meyer, Huntington
Meyer anchored a Huntington defense in wins over No. 15 Marian and RV Saint Xavier with a pair of 20-dig efforts. The freshman had 25 digs in a sweep of Marian and 22 against SXU, ending the two matches with 5.9 digs per set.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Morgan Robrock, Huntington
Robrock stuffed the box scores for Huntington in its wins over No. 15 Marian and RV Saint Xavier. The junior setter averaged 10.9 assists, 2.4 digs, 1.4 kills, 0.8 blocks and 0.9 aces per set in the two wins and notched 48 assists, 14 digs, seven kills and six blocks against SXU.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Danae Moriarty, Grace
Moriarty scored or assisted on all three of Grace's goals on the week, leading the No. 20-ranked Lancers past Goshen and Bethel in a pair of one-goal outcomes. The forward had a goal and assist in a 2-1 win at Goshen and netted the lone strike in a 1-0 triumph against Bethel.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Hannah Miller, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Miller shined bright in MVNU's 1-1 draw with No. 2 Marian, gathering 10 saves to keep the Knight offense in check. Miller then posted a shutout in Mount Vernon Nazarene's 2-0 victory against Saint Francis.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Pablo Garcia, Huntington
Garcia highlighted a pair of wins for Huntington and closed the week with four goals and two assists in the two matches. The senior had one goal and two helpers in a 5-4 win over RV IWU, before notching a hat trick in a 4-2 win against Marian.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Finn Popescu, Bethel
Popescu helped No. 9 Bethel increase its lead atop the CL standings with wins over Taylor and No. 10 Grace. Popescu allowed just two goals in 180 minutes of work and posted five saves in BU's 2-1 win over Grace.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Morgan Forney, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Forney raced to a first-place finish at Wilmington's Jenna Strong Fall Classic. The MVNU sophomore topped the field with a time of 18:59.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Evan Hodkinson, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Hodkinson crossed in eighth out of 247 individuals at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic, posting a time of 25:34 to lead Mount Vernon Nazarene to a third-place team finish.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Amanda Kouros, Indiana Wesleyan
Kouros led IWU at the Cornerstone Tournament by taking fourth place in the overall standings. The freshman logged a total of 952 in the five games, averaging a score of 190 for the Wildcats.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Cameron Compton, Bethel
Compton won the Cornerstone Tournament in his first collegiate outing, posting scores of 174, 229, 256, 213, 213 for a total of 1,085 in his debut. The freshman topped the 14-team field by four pins.
