JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from October 31 through November 6. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Ella Collier, Marian
Collier filled the box scores in each of No. 7 Marian's three wins on the week, averaging 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per victory. The junior guard shot 61.8 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from three-point range for the Knights.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Drew Lutz, Bethel
Lutz led Bethel to a pair of wins by averaging 22.0 points, 8.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game, while shooting 53.8 percent from the field. The senior was on-target from deep, sinking 11-of-16 looks for a 68.8-percent rate in the two games.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Ryan Czerniak, Taylor
Czerniak smacked 11 kills on 19 swings and did not have any errors in a sweep of Grace for No. 11 Taylor in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament. Czerniak added four blocks to go with the blistering .579 hitting percentage.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
McKaylah Flagle, Taylor
Flagle picked up 14 digs without an error to help anchor the back row for No. 11 Taylor in its three-set sweep of Grace in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Cassie Gregory, Indiana Wesleyan
Gregory tallied 35 assists, five digs, three blocks and three kills in a 3-0 victory for No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan over Saint Francis in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Naomi Walters, Marian
Walters posted a hat trick in No. 2 Marian's 4-0 blanking of Goshen in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament. Walters put three of her five shots in net, had a fourth goal waived off due to an offsides call and earned the game-winner for MU.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Hannah Brackenbury, Taylor
Brackenbury anchored a 2-1 win for RV Taylor over No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals, making five saves in the road victory to fuel the first-round upset win by the Trojans.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Higor Barbieri, Huntington
Barbieri struck for two goals in a 3-1 win for RV Huntington over Taylor in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. The junior forward netted the eventual game-winner in the second overtime session to advance the Foresters.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Matteo Conci, Grace
Conci picked up three saves during another shutout in goal, this time helping No. 13 Grace advance to the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Addy Wiley, Huntington
Wiley topped the field at the Crossroads League Championships, winning the individual title by 22 seconds with a time of 17:26. Wiley's efforts highlighted a third-place team showing for No. 9 Huntington.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Eli Fullerton, Indiana Wesleyan
Fullerton raced to the individual Crossroads League Championship with a time of 25:12, helping No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan also secure the team championship.
