JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from November 7 through 13. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Rylee Pireu, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Pireu led RV Mount Vernon Nazarene to a pair of victories by scoring 20.0 points and adding 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. The senior shot 68.2 percent from the field and knocked in nine-of-13 looks from beyond the arc.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Drew Lutz, Bethel
Lutz repeated the honor, this time netting 32.0 points, 7.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game for Bethel in a pair of high-scoring wins. The senior led an 87-85 upset of No. 22 Oregon Tech with 28 points, eight assists and three steals, and added 36 points in a win over Bushnell.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Anna Frey, Taylor
Frey led No. 11 Taylor past RV Bethel and No. 21 Marian to the CL Tournament Championship with 4.0 kills per set at a .262 clip. The outside hitter posted a 16-kill, 12-dig double-double in a four-set win over Bethel and went for 12 kills, one ace and three blocks in the sweep of Marian.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Grace Ieremia, Taylor
Ieremia was a wall for No. 11 Taylor in its run to the Crossroads League Tournament Championship, posting 1.7 blocks per set in TU's wins over RV Bethel and No. 21 Marian. Ieremia tallied nine total blocks and seven kills in 13 swings in the title match.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Kacy Bragg, Taylor
Bragg orchestrated the balanced attack for No. 11 Taylor in its wins over RV Bethel and No. 21 Marian, tossing up 73 assists to go with 13 digs, 11 kills, seven blocks and one ace to help lift TU to the CL Tournament Championship.
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak took 14 shots, put five on target and posted two goals to lead No. 2 Marian past RV Taylor in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals. Oleksak also scored the game-winner in the contest.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Blair Currie, Spring Arbor
Currie collected two saves in a clean sheet in goal for No. 4 Spring Arbor, helping the Cougars secure a 4-0 win over No. 18 Grace in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals.
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Luan Bressy, Bethel
Bressy highlighted a 1-0 win over RV Huntington in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals by scoring the lone goal of the contest to propel No. 6 Bethel.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Finn Popescu, Bethel
Popescu did not allow a goal, while helping No. 6 Bethel to the Crossroads League Tournament Championship with a pair of 1-0 victories against RV Huntington and Spring Arbor in the final two rounds of the tourney.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Leeah Wade, Bethel
Wade led Bethel at the Adrian Open, rolling a total score of 1,001 and adding a 623 in the Siena Heights Classic.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Caleb Tate, Spring Arbor
Tate collected a pair of top-five individual finishes and helped Spring Arbor finish second at the Adrian Open and first at the Siena Heights Classic.
