JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from February 13 through 19. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Konnor Gambrell, Huntington
Gambrell led Huntington past Goshen in the regular season finale with 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor. The senior center also pulled down six rebounds and added three assists and a trio of steals.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Branden Northern, Saint Francis
Northern was crucial in USF's 102-101 double-overtime win at Bethel, scoring 29 points on 11-of-20 shooting, and adding five rebounds and four assists in the instant classic.
Women's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Heather Plastow, Grace
Plastow posted four NAIA A-standard times for Grace at the CL Championships and picked up wins in the 1,000-meters, 4x800-meter relay and distance-medley relay. Plastow also finished runner-up in the mile, setting school records in all four events.
Women's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jai-Lyn Norwood, Marian
Norwood was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Meet and led Marian to the team title by taking All-Crossroads League honors in two field events and one running event. Norwood won the long jump, took second in the triple jump and 400 and hit NAIA standards in all three events.
Men's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Bryan Hernandez-Rios, Grace
Hernandez Rios won three events at the Crossroads League Indoor Championships, topping the field in the 3,000-meters, the 4x800-meter relay and the distance-medley relay. Rios hit NAIA A-standards in all three and was named the Men's Runner of the Meet.
Men's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Sammy Sommers, Taylor
Sommers won the long jump with a NAIA-A standard leap of 7.16 meters and added a B-standard and runner-up showing in the 60-meter hurdles, while also taking fourth in the 4x400-meter relay to lead Taylor at the CL Championships.
Women's Bowler of the Week
Faith Hall, Marian
Hall finished 33rd at the Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic, leading Marian with 1,226 total pins in six games and totaling four games with at least 200 pins.
Men's Bowler of the Week
Chad Burgess, Marian
Burgess posted 1,217 pins over six games for Marian, averaging 202.8 pins per game.
Baseball Player of the Week
David Miller, Saint Francis
Miller powered Saint Francis to a series win at Tennessee Southern, blasting three home runs and slugging 1.286 over the four games. Miller also collected eight hits in 14 at bats, scored five runs and drove in five.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Joey Butz, Huntington
Butz fired a one-hit shutout at Saint Xavier in an 11-0 win for Huntington. Butz fanned six and did not allow a run in the seven-inning victory.
