JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from March 6 through 12. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Andrew Miranda, Bethel
Miranda sparked Bethel's four-game sweep of Goshen by hitting .692 over the four games without a strikeout. The outfielder added nine runs and drove in six, while registering four extra-base hits and three steals.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Damien Wallace, Marian
Wallace fired a nine-inning shutout at RV Indiana Wesleyan, allowing just four hits and one walk in the 5-0 win for Marian. Wallace accounted for 17 of the 27 outs with 14 coming via the whiff and by also recording three assists from the mound.
Softball Player of the Week
Savannah Harweger, Marian
Harweger led No. 23 Marian to a 10-0 week by hitting .514 over 37 at bats for the Knights. The senior shortstop posted 11 runs, five extra-base hits, eight runs batted in and four stolen bases to lead the offense.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Olivia Stunkel, Marian
Stunkel piled up five wins and a save in the circle for No. 23 Marian during its 10-0 week. The sophomore pitched in six games, going 5-0 with a save, to go with a 0.50 earned-run average and 24 strikeouts without a walk in 28 dominant frames.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Emma Chrome, Marian
Chrome went unbeaten for Marian at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles in four total matches. The MU freshman went 2-0 in a sweep of Missouri Valley and added two more wins in a 5-2 victory over Milligan.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Jones McNamar, Marian
McNamar led Marian to 2-1 team record by going 3-0 at No. 5 and 6 singles and 3-0 at No. 2 doubles. The sophomore's victories were pivotal in each of MU's wins, helping the Knights to a 4-3 win over Missouri Valley and a 5-2 win over Milligan.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Elizabeth Hedrick, Marian
Hedrick led Marian with a third-place finish at the Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff. Hedrick carded successive rounds of 80, 78, 84 on the 5,823-yard course.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Patrick Guymon, Marian
Guymon highlighted Marian's time at the Keiser Cup, finishing in 14th on the individual leaderboard with rounds of 75, 79 and 66.
