JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from April 3-9. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Aiden Brunin, Spring Arbor
Brunin helped Spring Arbor to a sweep of Grace in its only two games of the week. Brunin hit .571 in the doubleheader with four hits in seven at bats and added one double, one triple, three runs batted in, five runs scored and two steals.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Joey Butz, Huntington
Butz picked up a win with five perfect innings during a 5-1 Huntington win over Goshen. Butz fanned eight batters and did not allow a hit, walk or run during his five innings of work.
Softball Player of the Week
Savannah Harweger, Marian
Harweger helped No. 12 Marian to a 6-0 week by hitting .682 with 15 hits in 22 at bats. The senior also scored six times, homered once, drove in three and swiped three bags.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Olivia Stunkel, Marian
Stunkel was nearly flawless with four wins over 19 innings for No. 12 Marian. Stunkel allowed zero runs and a combined eight hits and walks, while fanning 20 batters in her four outings in the circle.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Lydia Ruegsegger, Grace
Ruegsegger went 4-0 on the week for Grace, helping the Lancers to a pair of wins. The sophomore won all four matches at or near the top of the GC lineup without dropping a set.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Mark Griffin, Marian
Griffin won both of his contests in a Marian win over Olivet Nazarene. The junior won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and 6-1 at No. 3 doubles for the Knights.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Sidney Parmer, Marian
Parmer took medalist honors for Marian at the Midway Eagle Invitational, firing rounds of 76 and 74 to top the field of 50 individuals.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Kyle Sanders, Indiana Wesleyan
Sanders won the Midway Eagle Invitational with scores of 74 and 68 in the two-round event. The IWU sophomore topped the field of 58 competitors on the 6,899-yard course.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Addi Dewey, Indiana Wesleyan
Dewey topped the field with a school record time of 17:19.22 in the 5,000-meters for Indiana Wesleyan at the 65-And-Sunny Invite. The time automatically qualified Dewey for NAIA Nationals.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Princess Kara, Indiana Wesleyan
Kara posted the top-ranked performance in the NAIA this season in the discus with a mark of 51.01 meters for Indiana Wesleyan at its home meet. Kara won the event and automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Nelson Kemboi, Goshen
Kemboi highlighted Goshen's showing at the Indiana Tech Good Friday Meet, setting a school record and winning the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:46.69 to provisionally qualify for NAIA Nationals.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Dan Heinig, Indiana Wesleyan
Heinig hit the NAIA A-standard and won the discus for Indiana Wesleyan on his home track, posting a distance of 50.64 meters in the event.
