JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from April 10-16. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Langston Ginder, Huntington
Ginder put up video game numbers for the Huntington offense against IUPUC and Grace. The graduate student hit .522 with 10 runs, eight extra-base hits, five home runs and 19 runs batted in to help the Foresters to a 4-1 week.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Nick Crabtree, Taylor
Crabtree picked up two wins in relief for RV Taylor, helping the Trojans overtake sole possession of the CL lead. Crabtree fired six scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and fanning 11 batters in the two appearances.
Softball Player of the Week
Shea VanScoter, Goshen
VanScoter had a hit in all eight games for Goshen, posting a .600 average with 18 hits on the week. The sophomore also scored six times, drove in 10, homered twice and swiped six bases without being thrown out.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Emmalee Hamp, Spring Arbor
Hamp was a force in the circle for SAU, firing four complete games and going 4-0 with wins over No. 12 Marian and No. 20 MVNU. Hamp posted a 0.75 ERA over 28 innings, fanned 17 hitters and tossed shutouts over MU and Taylor.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Olivia Creech, Spring Arbor
Creech took wins at No. 1 singles and doubles to lead Spring Arbor past Lourdes. Creech won 6-4, 6-4 in singles and 6-3 in doubles.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Facundo Paredes, Grace
Paredes won at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles to lead No. 18 Grace to a 6-1 win against RV Indiana Tech. Paredes rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win in singles play and took a 6-3 win in doubles action.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Jessica Shurety, Bethel
Shurety took home first place at the Pilot Spring Invite, topping the field of 40 on her home course with rounds of 75 and 76.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Luke Beetz, Marian
Beetz led Marian at the Sagamore Shootout, carding scores of 70 and 79 to tie for fifth in the 45-member field.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Giorgia Mameli, Marian
Mameli turned in NAIA standard performances in the 100, 200 and 4x100-meter relay for Marian at the Indiana State Invitational. Mameli finished top-five in the individual events and helped the MU relay automatically qualify for Nationals.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Mady Axsom, Goshen
Axsom cleared a height of 1.65 meters to finish second overall in the high jump at the Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational. Axsom provisionally qualified for NAIA Nationals with the performance.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Bryan Hernandez-Rios, Grace
Hernandez-Rios won the 1,500-meter race with a Grace-record time of 3:48.42 at the Tiffin Track Carnival. The senior's time is the third-best in the NAIA so far this outdoor season.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Isaiah Tipping, Marian
Tipping hit standards in the hammer and discus for Marian at the ISU Gibson Invite. Tipping won the hammer and automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals with a MU record distance of 62.09 meters.
