JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from February 10 through 16. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Cali Gregory, Saint Francis
Gregory led No. 9 Saint Francis past MVNU and No. 12 Marian with 24.5 points and 5.0 assists per outing. The freshman shot 54.3 percent from the floor, including 50.0 percent from deep in each game. Against MVNU, Gregory had 34 points and eight helpers.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Syanne Mohamed, Goshen
Mohamed had double-doubles in Goshen's games with SAU and Taylor, netting 17.5 points per game to go with 15.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per outing. In GC's win over TU, the senior center had 14 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Gabe Newhof, Spring Arbor
Newhof carried Spring Arbor past Goshen and No. 14 Huntington by averaging 26.0 points per game on 62.9-percent shooting. The junior forward also added 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per victory.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Ian Scott, Grace
Scott kept on filling the box scores, this time posting 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 4.0 blocks and 2.5 steals per game against No. 10 Bethel and No. 14 Huntington. In GC's win over Bethel, Scott had 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
Women's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Jaynie Halterman, Taylor
Halterman was named the CL Indoor Championships Women's Runner of the Meet after winning the 3,000 and 5,000-meter races in record-setting fashion. In addition to posting the best times in the NAIA this season in each, Halterman set new TU and league meet records.
Women's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Nina Marinkovic, Marian
Marinkovic competed and scored in four field events for Marian during its team title at the CL Indoor Championships. On her way to scoring the most points on the women's side, Marinkovic won the pentathlon, and 60-meter hurdles, while taking fifth in the high jump and long jump.
Men's Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Eric Materna, Marian
Materna was the top scorer on the men's side of the CL Indoor Championships, leading Marian to the team title with wins in the 200, 400 and 600 meters. Materna hit the A-standard in the 400 and the B in the 600.
Men's Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Christian Rios, Marian
Rios helped Marian to a dominant team title at the Crossroads League Championships by winning his individual events in the weight throw and shot put. The senior hit the NAIA A-standard in each event and posted his best-ever mark in the shot put at 17.09 meters.
Baseball Player of the Week
Eli Riley, Saint Francis
Riley banged three homers for Saint Francis in a three-game series at No. 11 Southeastern. The senior catcher hit .500 over 12 at bats, mixing in four extra-base hits and slugging 1.333 in the series.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Gabel Pentecost, Taylor
Pentecost led No. 19 Taylor to a 10-4 win over RV Saint Thomas in Florida, striking out nine batters and allowing just one unearned run on three hits and one walk over five dominant innings of work. Pentecost earned the win as the Trojans took three games in the four-game set.
