JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from March 3 through 9. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Taylor Folkema, Indiana Wesleyan
Folkema came up big for No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan in its 64-58 triumph against No. 12 Marian in the CL Tournament Championship. Folkema had 13 points, eight assists, four rebounds and one steal in the title game.
Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Abbey McNally, Marian
McNally recorded a double-double in a losing effort for No. 12 Marian against No. 4 IWU in the CL Tournament Championship. The junior posted 16 rebounds, with 12 on the defensive end and added one block and one steal to her 19 points on seven-of-10 shooting.
Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Ian Scott, Grace
Scott closed a terrific showing throughout the CL Tournament by posting 20 points for No. 7 Grace in its title game win over No. 12 Huntington. Scott made six-of-11 field goals and added seven rebounds and three assists.
Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Gage Sefton, Grace
Sefton picked up seven rebounds, two blocks and two thefts in No. 7 Grace's 80-72 win over No. 12 Huntington in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. Sefton also scored 17 points and dished out five assists.
Baseball Player of the Week
Joey Tessmer, Spring Arbor
Tessmer hit .615 for Spring Arbor in three games against Goshen and Lourdes. The sophomore outfielder banged two homers and one double among his eight hits and also scored six runs and drove in seven.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jake Boyer, Taylor
Boyer had a pair of scoreless outings for No. 18 Taylor, helping the Trojans to league wins over Grace and Huntington. In seven shutout innings on the bump, Boyer fanned seven, posted a 0.71 WHIP and recorded the win in his start against Grace.
Softball Player of the Week
Morgan Yeater, Indiana Wesleyan
Yeater stuffed the box scores for No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan during its 7-1 showing at the Space Coast Spring Games. On the week, Yeater hit .636 with 13 runs scored, 10 runs batted in, seven stolen bases, one home run and one double.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Jordyn Ball, Indiana Wesleyan
Ball took the ball five times for No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan, pitching 28.0 innings and picking up four wins and one save. The junior allowed just one earned run in that time for a 0.25 ERA and also recorded 17 strikeouts.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Mackendzie Dresbaugh, Marian
Dresbaugh led No. 5 Marian to the team title at the Saddlebrook Kickoff, winning medalist honors with scores of 75, 77 and 81 to top the field of 42.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Artur Pons, Grace
Pons led No. 16 Grace to team wins over RV Arizona Christian and No. 19 Coastal Georgia going unbeaten in the two matches at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles for the Lancers.
