JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league's top individual performances from March 10 through 16. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week's winners.
Baseball Player of the Week
Sam Gladd, Taylor
Gladd homered four times in a doubleheader sweep of Huntington and added two more in a four-game sweep of Spring Arbor. For the week, Gladd powered No. 18 Taylor to a 6-0 record with six home runs, three doubles, 12 runs scored and 15 runs batted in while batting .545.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Adam Walters, Bethel
Walters tossed a complete game shutout to deliver a 1-0 win for Bethel and a series win over Goshen. The junior allowed just three hits and three walks over his seven scoreless frames to take the victory.
Softball Player of the Week
Brylee Bilger, Indiana Wesleyan
Bilger hit .625 with two home runs, two doubles and nine runs batted in to lead No. 18 IWU to sweeps of Spring Arbor and Taylor. The senior posted a batting average of .625 while reaching base at an .824 clip and slugging 1.625.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Malayni Clemens, Indiana Wesleyan
Clemens took the circle in all four games for No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan, sparking a 4-0 week for the Wildcats with 11 scoreless innings of work. Clemens went 2-0 with one save in her four outings, posting 11 strikeouts and a 0.64 WHIP to go with her 0.00 ERA.
Women's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Kiara Bahena, Saint Francis
Bahena took the track for USF in the 800 and 1,500-meters, finishing top-three in each event at the Falcon Classic.
Women's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Hannah Boersema, Saint Francis
Boersema posted a winning distance of 39.70 meters in the javelin for Saint Francis at the season-opening Falcon Classic.
Men's Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Hugo Humbert, Saint Francis
Humbert competed in the steeplechase for Saint Francis at the Falcon Classic, winning the race and breaking the USF program record with a time of 9:48.39.
Men's Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Joey Rauwerda, Saint Francis
Rauwerda set a new USF program record in the pole vault and automatically qualified for NAIA Nationals with a second-place height of 5.00 meters in his first event of the outdoor season.
Women's Golfer of the Week
Eleanor Schuitema, Taylor
Schuitema scored her first collegiate win with Taylor and helped the No. 16 Trojans secure their fourth team title of the season. The freshman fired scores of 76 and 71 to win the Baker Invite by four strokes.
Men's Golfer of the Week
Weston Ogden, Marian
Ogden finished 11th on the individual leaderboard for Marian at the Keiser Kup. The junior posted scores of 75, 76 and 71 over the three-round event.
Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Yasmin Imamniyazova, Marian
Imamniyazova went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles for No. 16 Marian, helping the Knights to team wins over RV Missouri Baptist and No. 19 Cumberlands.
Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Filippo Gallo, Goshen
Gallo highlighted Goshen's 5-2 team win over Olivet Nazarene with wins at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles. Gallo did not drop a set in the contest.
