SAU Men’s Bowling Wins CL Tournament Championship
Crossroads League Championships Central
JACKSON, Mich. – For the first time in program history, the Spring Arbor University men's bowling team won the Crossroads League Tournament championship, claiming the title at JAX 60 on Thursday.
The championship tournament featured all seven Crossroads League teams bowling 12 Baker games with the top four squads moving on to a bracket-style, best-of-three match play to determine the winner.
The SAU men finished second after the qualifying Baker games with a total pinfall of 2333. Huntington University earned the No. 1 spot while Marian University and Indiana Wesleyan University followed in third and fourth, respectively.
Spring Arbor made quick work of Marian in the first round of match play, defeating the Knights 245-182 and 247-176.
In the finals, Huntington grabbed game one 214-168, but the Cougars bounced back winning the next two games, 242-151 and 209-204, to capture the league crown.
It was the first Crossroads League title, regular season or tournament, for head coach Gerry Lobdell and the Cougars. The SAU men's team has come close in each of the last two seasons, but had finished runner-up both times.
In addition to the Spring Arbor men's team winning, the SAU women's team also finished first to sweep this year's Crossroads League Tournament titles.
