
Trojans Rally for Team Title at Egypt Valley Championship
ADA, Mich. – A 12-shot comeback in the final round of the Egypt Valley Championship lifted the No. 12 Taylor men's golf team to its first team title of the fall season. TU ended the three-round tournament with a two-shot victory.
The Trojans shot scores of 298 and 301 in Monday's first two rounds, putting TU 10 strokes off pace of RV Lawrence Tech for the top spot in the 12-team field. TU charged to the lead with a 290 in Tuesday's round, gaining 12 shots on LTU and ending two shots up.
Taylor's three-round score of 889 topped RV Lawrence Tech (891) for the top spot, while Cornerstone (901), RV Northwestern Ohio (911) and RV Roosevelt (922) rounded out the top-five.
The Tuesday rally was a total team effort, as all five of Taylor's players booked scores between 71 and 75. Kyle Kasitz and Lance VanErmen led the way by carding one-under scores of 71.
Kasitz also tallied TU's top second-round total with a 73, lowering his scores from 75 to 73 to 71 over the three rounds and leading the Trojans with a fourth-place finish at 219 and just three shots off the individual lead.
VanErmen also improved from 78 to 75 to 71 to end at 224 and in 8th, while Adam Kasitz and Austin Davis tied in ninth at 225 to give Taylor four finishers inside the top-10 among the field of 72 competitors.
Will Schuitema finished in 15th with a score of 228, tying teammate Tommy McWatters, who competed as an individual.
No. 12 Taylor (51-11) will close its fall season on October 23 and 24 at the Whistling Straits Intercollegiate in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
