
Marian Upsets No. 10 Coastal Georgia
Hilton Head, S.C. - The Marian men's tennis team continued to dominate during the spring break trip on Tuesday afternoon, as the Knights took down No. 10 Coastal Georgia with a 4-1 score. Marian is now 10-6 overall on the season.
Marian got off to a good starting point with Jona Henze and Marc Soriano at No. 2 with a score of 6-2 to gain the victory over Coastal Georgia, at No. 3 Jan Bartolome and Jones McNamar took another victory for the Knights with a score of 6-4. Allowing Marian to take the lead 1-0. Andrew Ilett and James Ashworth fell to the Mariner's with a score of 6-2 at No.1.
The Knights continued their lead in to singles with Luis Sobanski won after three sets with 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10) in the tie breaker at No. 2. Henze won at No. 3 with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Ashworth fell to the Mariner's 3-6, 4-6 at No. 1.
The Knights fell in both No. 5 and No. 6 with Ilett scoring 6-4, 2-4 and Bartolome scoring 6-0 with both matches unfinished. Soriano turned up the heat and won at No. 4 with scores of 5-7, 6-1, and 1-0 (4) in the tie breaker to clinch the victory for the Knights.
Marian's upset win is their first top-10 win of the season.
