
Lancers Top Pair of Top-25 Foes
Brunswick, Ga. – Grace College's men's tennis team started its spring break trip with a pair of impressive victories.
The Lancers (13-1) knocked off (RV) Arizona Christian 4-0 on Thursday night before picking up a 5-2 win over No. 19 Coastal Georgia on Saturday afternoon.
Grace started the road trip with an impressive sweep of the Firestorm who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The Lancers took two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. All three doubles matches were hotly contested as they were all decided by two sets.
Pablo Gregori and Salva Pons won 7-5 at No. 1 doubles and Artur Pons and Manuel Marques won at No. 2 doubles also with a 7-5 set score.
In singles play Salva Pons dominated at No. 2 spot winning 6-2 and 6-1. Luis Cordoba also impressed from the No. 4 spot, winning 6-1 and 6-0.
Benjamin Rahine clinched the contest for the Lancers winning 6-2 and 7-5 from the No. 5 spot. The other singles matchups did not finish but two of the three were tied at one set apiece when Grace claimed the victory.
On Saturday the Lancers again were tested against a top-25 opponent as they faced off against the 19 ranked Mariners.
Grace blitzed to the doubles point winning all three matchups. Gregori and Salva Pons won 6-3 from the No. 1 slot. Artur Pons teamed with Marques and Cordoba teamed with Rahine with both duos winning 6-2.
In singles play Grace clinched the contest winning the top three singles matchups.
Gregori won from the top in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) and Salva Pons took the No. 2 singles point with set scores of 6-0 and 6-3.
Artur Pons won what proved to be the contest clinching point in straight sets at 6-1, 6-3. Rahine came from behind at No. 5 singles to clinch his point with set scores of 1-6, 6-3 and 6-4 as Grace won the top 25 showdown 5-2.
The Lancers will be back in action on Monday for a match against No. 4 Southeastern.
