Savannah Harweger Becomes Marian's All-Time Leader in Base Hits
INDIANAPOLIS - On Wednesday, March 27, Marian softball's fifth-year senior Savannah Harweger set the Knights' program record for career base hits.
Harweger entered the doubleheader against Indiana Tech on Wednesday with 334 career hits, needing two to tie the all-time mark held by Logan Personett ('17), and three to break. In the first game against the Warriors, Harweger put up a pair of base hits, tying the program record at 336. In the second game with her second at-bat, a bunt single by the speedy shortstop made history, as the fifth-year player passed Personett for the all-time mark.
Harweger's achievement comes in the middle of what would be her fourth full season of softball, having only played 12 games as a freshman before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season. Harweger is already Marian's record holder for stolen bases, and is on pace to end her career as the record holder for at bats, walks, batting average, and runs scored.
Marian will next host Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, March 30, as her quest to push her record begins.
