
Hamp's gem, offensive outburst powers Spring Arbor past No. 17 IWU
MARION, Ind. – Two big innings and another gem from senior pitcher Emmalee Hamp fueled Spring Arbor University to an 11-0 victory over No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan University in five innings in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
It was the first time all season that the Wildcats had been blanked on the scoreboard as Hamp tossed a complete game shutout scattering four hits and striking out five batters. Meanwhile, the SAU offense erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning and added four more in the fifth to bring the eight-run mercy rule into effect.
Spring Arbor fell to Indiana Wesleyan 11-0 in the first game of the afternoon.
The Cougars move to 16-11 overall and 8-6 in Crossroads League play.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Indiana Wesleyan scored a run in the first inning.
- That would be all the run support IWU's Alyssa Wagner needed as she pitched a complete game shutout while holding the Cougars hitless.
- Elena Jones had a very good outing in the circle. The senior pitcher held the high-powered IWU offense in check, limiting the Wildcats to three runs on four hits while fanning four.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- After three scoreless frames, the Spring Arbor offense erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning – highlighted by a two-RBI double by Maddy Thrush and a three-RBI double by Grace Lentz.
- The Cougars kept the bats going in the fifth inning, plating four more runs to increase the margin to 11-0. Elaina Walker had an RBI double and Hamp followed with a two-RBI single to key the big inning.
- Four Cougars had multiple hits, including Summer Ambler, who went 3-for-4 at the plate. Lentz had two hits and four RBIs while Thrush also had two hits, drove in two and scored twice.
- Hamp worked all five innings in the circle on the way to earning her ninth victory of the season. The senior pitcher kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard for the first time this season while allowing only four hits and striking out five batters.
