INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 11 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team earned a 63-47 win over the No. 15 Knights of Marian University in a road game on Saturday, January 11. With the win, the Cougars improved to 16-1 overall and 6-1 in Crossroads League play.
The Knights were the first to score, taking an early 6-0 lead in Saturday's matchup. At the 3:16 mark of the first quarter, Cali Gregory made a layup that gave Saint Francis a one-point advantage; however, the Knights quickly responded with a jump shot to reclaim the lead. USF then opened the second quarter with a 13-0 run, establishing a 20-11 lead with six minutes remaining. The Knights cut the Cougars' lead to four points, but Saint Francis responded, holding Marian to just two points in the final three minutes of the first half for a 28-21 lead at halftime.
The two teams traded baskets in the third quarter, but the Cougars were able to maintain the lead. As time ran out in the third, Chloe McKnight drained a three-pointer to extend USF's lead to 38-32 going into the fourth quarter. The Cougars offense kept firing in the third quarter, with a 66.7% three-point shooting percentage as USF outscored Marian 25-15 to secure the 63-47 win on the road.
Up next, USF women's basketball (16-1, 6-1) will host the Grace College Lancers on Wednesday, January 15. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Hutzell Athletic Center.
