No. 2 IWU Remains Unbeaten with Win Over No. 17 Marian; Frasure Reaches 2,000-Career Points

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan women's basketball stayed unbeaten at 19-0 on Saturday, defeating No. 17 Marian 77-69. Lilli Frasureand Taylor Folkema each scored 18 points to lead the offense. Frasure reached 2,000 career points in the victory, joining NAIA Hall of Famer Liz Howerth as Wildcat's to reach 2,000 points.

WHAT HAPPENED

  • The Wildcats held a 1 point lead after the first quarter, IWU knocked down 3 triples and went 4-5 from the free throw line to hold a lead despite only hitting 5 shots and committing 6 turnovers.
  • IWU hit 5 threes in the second quarter and cut their turnovers in half, outscoring the Knights 25-24 in the frame. With her final basket in the first half, Lilli Frasure scored her 2,000th career point.
  • Indiana Wesleyan opened up their lead in the 3rd, taking a 10 point lead into the 4th. The Wildcat defense held Marian to 28% from the field and forced MU into 7 turnovers in the quarter.
  • The Wildcats pushed their lead to 14 with with 9 minutes left in the fourth before Marian put together a run. IWU did not make a field goal in the final 4:44, but went to the foul line 10 times. Despite their lead being cut to as little as 4 with 50 second left, INdiana Wesleyan made enough free throws to escape Indy with the win.
