
Pate Joins 1,000 Point Club as Cougars Rake Past Maple Leafs
The No. 14 ranked University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team raked past the visiting Goshen College Maple Leafs by a final score of 71-36 on Wednesday, January 29. Reganne Pate scored her 1,000th career point during Wednesday night's win. The senior guard from Granger, Ind. Pate drained a three-pointer at the 3:22 mark of the fourth quarter to bring her career total to 1,000 points. Pate finished the game shooting 2-4 from three-point range for six total points.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 14 ranked University of Saint Francis (Ind.) women's basketball team raked past the visiting Goshen College Maple Leafs by a final score of 71-36 on Wednesday, January 29.
Reganne Pate scored her 1,000th career point during Wednesday night's win. The senior guard from Granger, Ind. Pate drained a three-pointer at the 3:22 mark of the fourth quarter to bring her career total to 1,000 points. Pate finished the game shooting 2-4 from three-point range for six total points.
USF held Goshen to under 10 points in three of the four quarters during Wednesday night's game. Saint Francis started the scoring with a three-point shot at 9:40 in the first quarter. With the score at 8-7 in favor of USF, the Cougars came out of a media timeout with under five minutes to play and held the Maple Leafs scoreless until the 42-second mark. The Cougars went into the second quarter with a 17-10 lead. Saint Francis extended their lead to 30-12 with 5:05 left in the first half and entered halftime with a score of 34-19.
The Cougars continued to dominate, preventing the Maple Leafs from scoring in the first two and a half minutes of the third quarter. Saint Francis outscored Goshen 19-9 in the third for a 53-28 lead at the start of the fourth quarter. A three-pointer from Lexi Shelton pushed the Cougars' lead to 71-36 with 22 seconds remaining. As the game came to a close, Goshen remained scoreless as Saint Francis secured the 35-point home victory.
As a team, the Cougars shot 53.2% (25-47) from the field and 60% (12-20) from three-point range against the Maple Leafs. Cali Gregory was 3-3 from deep en route to a team-high 16 points. The freshman also pulled down five rebounds and dished out five assists while collecting one block. Isabella Gizzi added 11 points and a steal. Chloe McKnight and Ally Madden finished the night with seven points apiece. Taylor Fordyce led with six rebounds and a block.
Up next, USF women's basketball (19-2, 9-2) will travel to Huntington University on Saturday, February 1. In their first match of the season, the Cougars defeated the Foresters with a final score of 78-62 in early December.
