
Trojans Tied for Second at National Championship
OKLAHOMA CITY – Senior Taylor French tallied a 3-under par 69 to lead the No. 6 Taylor women's golf team on day one of the NAIA National Championship on Tuesday.
French carded seven birdies, the most by any player in the field in round one, to move into a tie atop the individual leaderboard following the opening day of action at Rose Creek Golf Club.
Buoyed by French's stellar play the Trojans finished the opening round in a two-way tie for second place following an opening round score of 294 (+6). The Trojans trail No. 2 Keiser by five shots while No. 17 Oklahoma City is tied with TU at 294.
Senior Maddie Thomas carded four birdies en route to a 1-over par 73 for the Trojans while fellow senior Annie Stimmel made a birdie on her final hole, the par-5 18th, to finish at 76. The Trojans added another 76 from senior Nicole Jung while senior Rachel Coers added a 79.
Taylor finished the day with 15 birdies, tied with Kesier for the most by any team in the field.
Taylor will return to the course for round two on Wednesday with Coers scheduled to lead off at 1:00 pm (CST).
