
Trojans Remain in Second at National Championship
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Taylor women's golf team maintained its position in the team standings on Wednesday, reaching the halfway point of the 2021 NAIA National Championship in second place.
The 6,103-yard, par-72 layout of Rose Creek Golf Club played much more difficult during round two as the wind picked up and conditions became firmer. The Trojans maintained their collective composure en route to a second round score of 300, the third best team score in the 30-team field, to remain within striking distance of tournament-leading Keiser.
Senior Taylor French continued her torrid play with a 1-over par 73 after opening with a 3-under par 69 on Tuesday. French is tied for second place on the individual leaderboard at 2-under par, two shots behind the leader.
Senior Annie Stimmel finished the second round with a 2-over par 74. The Hilliard, Ohio native tallied three bogeys, one birdie, and 14 pars.
Fellow senior Nicole Jung cashed in on a 20-foot birdie putt on her final hole, the par-4 ninth hole, to fire a 75 in round two while senior Maddie Thomas tallied a 78 and senior Rachel Coers added an 83 for the Trojans.
Taylor trails No. 2 Keiser by 12 shots at the midway point of the tournament. Keiser shot 293 in round two to reach the 36-hole mark with a total of 582. The Trojans sit at 594 (294-300) followed by Oklahoma City at 597 (294-303) in third and Dalton State at 601 (293-303) in fourth place.
The Trojans are back on the course for round three of the 72-hole tournament on Thursday morning with Coers leading TU off at 9:09 am. Fans can follow live scoring at golfstat.com.
