FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 13th-ranked Taylor women's golf program was back in action on Monday and Tuesday at Brookwood Golf Club, edging the host Huntington squad by one shot to secure the title at the five-team event.
Taylor opened with a 314 on Monday to grab a five-stroke lead over the Foresters and held off a charge from HU on Tuesday by carding a season-best round of 300 to top the field with a two-round tally of 618.
Shayne Lim and Ellie Karst paced the Trojans with top-five finishes, as Lim carded a 150 to finish in second and Karst finished at 154 to end in fifth.
Following that duo in the top-10 were Ellie Beavins (157) in seventh, Margarita Garrido (158) in ninth and Alyssa Schmidt (158) in ninth, as the Trojans put all five of their lineup inside the top-10 of the field of 39.
Elizabeth Kemper and Hope Harper also scored top-20 showings while competing as individuals, giving TU seven players among the top-17 finishers at the event.
In addition to topping Huntington (619) by one shot, Taylor finished comfortably ahead of the only other squad ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll, beating RV Grace (645) by 27 strokes.
No. 13 Taylor (12-1) will resume its fall schedule in South Bend at the Battle at Blackthorn on September 29 and 30.
