Trojans Secure Team Title at Battle at Blackthorn

SOUTH BEND – No. 13 Taylor placed all five of its players inside the top-20 on the individual leaderboard and took a one-stroke victory at the Battle at Blackthorn on September 29 and 30 for the squad's second title of the fall.

TU took a one-shot lead over Huntington after 18 holes and held off a second-day rally from No. 24 Bethel to edge the host Pilots by one for the title. Taylor carded team scores of 310 and 310 to end at 620 and one ahead of BU's 621.

Ellie Beavins fired scores of 76 and 75 to finish in fourth, while Margarita Garrido opened with a 73 on Friday and ended fifth overall. Alyssa Schmidt gave the Trojans a trio of top-10 showings, while Shayne Lim ended 16th and Ellie Karst came in at 19th.

Taylor (19-1) will resume its fall campaign on October 9 and 10, when it plays in the Saint Classic Invitational at the Warren Golf Couse in Norte Dame, Indiana.
