
Oleksak Named NAIA Field Athlete Of The Week
Kansas City, Mo. - For the first time in her young career, Erin Oleksak of the Marian women's track and field team has been named the NAIA Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the NAIA Wednesday afternoon. Oleksak's honor comes after winning the Crossroads League Athlete of the Week for the fourth time during the indoor track season.
Erin Oleksak's dominant freshman indoor season continued as she broke three of her own school records, surpassed two Crossroads League meet records, while hitting three NAIA 'A' standards while helping the Knights to the Crossroads League Championship Title. In the field, Oleksak set the Marian school record with a win in the long jump, hitting 5.72m on her final attempt, beating the field by .29m. Then in the high jump, Oleksak battled back and forth with Spring Arbor's Kyara Black, becoming the first athlete of the day to break to meet record as she cleared 1.71m. Oleksak finished second in the high jump, finishing with a school record at 1.71m.
In addition to her work in field events, Erin also won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.80 seconds which set a Marian school record and is the No. 2 time in the NAIA this season, while also finishing fourth in the 200m hitting the 'B' standard with a time of 25.85 seconds, surpassing the previous league record.
Marian will compete in a last-chance qualifying meet this Saturday at Wittenberg University.
