Demarchi Leads Wildcats to Big Win Over No. 22 Marian

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan moved their win streak to eleven after defeating the Marian Knights 3-1 Wednesday evening. The Wildcats were led by a strong performance from senior Martina Demarchiwho tallied 22 kills on a .465 hit percentage and added 3 blocks and 6 digs.

MATCH VITALS

  • The teams traded blows in set one as the teams were still tied at 21-21. Indiana Wesleyan would go on a 4-0 run to take the first set.
  • After 4-0 Wildcat run put the red and gray on top at 20-18, the Knights used a 4-0 run to retake control of the set. MU eventually put the set away at 25-23.
  • The late momentum from the previous set carried ove for the home team as Marian scored the first 4 points of the set. The Wildcats responded however, rattling off 7 straight of their own. IWU maintained their lead the rest of the way, winning 25-18.
  • Tied at 7-7 Indiana Wesleyan took from control of the fourth set with an 11-2 run. Marissa Mullins recorded 3 straight kills to end the set at 25-13 and secure the victory for IWU.
  • Martina Demarchi led the offense with 22 kills. Eva Joldersma added 16.
  • The Wildcats dominated the net with 12 blocks. Julia Price led the way with 6. Joldersma, Mullins, and Abbigail Porter had 4 each.
  • Cadee Notter tallied 18 digs.
  • Porter totaled 49 assists.

  • "There was a lot of resilience tonight from our team!" said Head Coach Candace Moats. "I loved how they stayed together, competed and fought for the win! Martina was outstanding tonight! Marian made us better!"

  • The Wildcats travel across Grant County on Saturday to take on Taylor at 3:00 PM.
